Thanks to hundreds of music fans who gave their support to WREK 91.1 FM via Twitter, the station (which has been broadcasting since 1968) earned new funds that will help them continue to provide Atlanta with the unique and varied programming they are known for. Piedmont Park was transformed into a music-lover’s playground as the masses flocked to Music Midtown, and WREK is in the middle of all the action, spreading the word about non-commercial radio. Festival goers and listeners were chiming in to support the station all weekend. When asked what was great about indie radio, one listener responded with, “everything!” Another listener, exclaimed, “Independent radio is the best type of radio because they don’t overplay the good songs!” Atlanta loves its indie radio!
